                   Forex               currencies               can               actually               be               traded               24               hours               a               day.

    But               during               this               24               hour               period,               different               markets               will               be               open               and               closed.

    It               is               extremely               important               that               you               know               not               only               the               basic               hours               of               operation,               but               the               key               times               to               trade,               and               when               overlaps               between               specific               markets               actually               occur.

    Without               this               information,               you               will               be               wasting               your               time,               and               possibly               losing               money.
                   Let's               examine               the               basic               hours               of               the               top               four               markets               first.

    Each               of               these               times               are               Eastern.
                   -               New               York,               United               States:               8               a.m.

    -               5               p.m.
                   -Tokyo,               Japan:               7               p.m.

    -               4               a.m.
                   -               London,               United               Kingdom:               3               a.m.

    -               12               p.m.
                   -               Sydney,               Australia:               5               p.m.

    -               2               a.m.
                   Not               all               of               these               hours               are               optimal               for               trading.

    Each               market               is               at               its               peak               during               the               times               just               before               and               just               after               regular               work               hours               in               each               country.

    Since               the               market               values               do               not               fluctuate               much               unless               people               are               actively               trading,               there               is               very               little               use               in               sitting               in               front               of               your               computer               waiting               for               something               to               happen               during               the               down               times               of               each.
                   There               may               be               one               exception               to               this               rule,               however.

    This               would               be               holidays.

    You               should               know               when               people               may               be               off               work               in               observance               of               a               holiday               in               another               country.

    If               you               have               this               information,               you               are               in               a               great               position               because               not               everyone               will               think               to               stay               on               top               of               such               things.
                   Most               any               seasoned               forex               trader               will               tell               you               that               the               best               time               to               trade               currencies               is               when               the               market               hours               of               operation               overlap.

    This               actually               occurs               several               times               each               day.

    The               overlaps               are               as               follows,               and               are               again               Eastern               time:
                   -               London               and               New               York:               8               a.m.

    -               12               p.m.
                   -               Sydney               and               Tokyo:               7               p.m.

    -               2               a.m.
                   -               London               and               Tokyo:               3               a.m.

    -               4               a.m.
                   It               is               quite               possible               that               you               will               not               be               near               your               computer,               or               even               awake               when               some               of               these               overlaps               take               place.

    If               you               are               concerned               about               this,               consider               investing               in               good               forex               software.

    This               software               can               perform               trades               for               you               when               a               currency               reaches               a               buy               or               sell               point               that               you               have               set               it               to               act               upon.

    Forex               software               can               be               purchased               online.

    There               are               many               versions,               so               choose               wisely.
